Mauro Gioia, Neapolitan, has connected his creations and his career to the recovery of the singing memory of his city and to the evocative reinterpretation of its theatrical tradition linked to variety, to the cabaret fantasists and the twentieth-century avant-garde. Among his shows: Piedigrottagioia and Napoli Muta (exploring the relationship between the silent cinema of the 1920s and the Neapolitan song, he made his debut at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris), Cantasirena (a sort of Neapolitan music hall), Naples au baiser du feu operetta by Renato Rascel, Lunga, the road. Rendez-vous chez Nino Rota is his first album in which he brings to light the songbook of the Milanese composer by duetting with some famous singers (in the cast Ute Lemper, Catherine Ringer, Sharleen Spiteri, Maria de Medeiros, Adriana Calcanhotto, Martirio and Susana Rinaldi) . The works of Mauro Gioia - always suspended between popular culture and intellectual "divertissement" - have explored the relationship between "stage" song and theater, introducing a "recitarcantando", between glamor and exoticism, cinematographic suggestions and pictorial citations.
